Marketing Executive Glossary

This is my third year in my program and I want to be a marketing executive. My glossary is for anyone interested in marketing. It will help you understand some basic terms for the job. After that, I invite you to go see my career summary if you want to learn more about marketing executives.

budgeting

verb

Allow or provide a particular amount of money in a budget.

Example: BUDGETING is such an important area for business and other organisations, which it tends to be approached in a fairly methodical and formal way.

verb

The action or process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts.

Example: The NETWORKING activity allows small businesses to enter into a market by relying on support from personal ties, such as family and friends, and business-related persons, such as suppliers and bankers.

A commercial business.

Example: The COMPANY aims to maintain production at a level of 90% for 15 weeks.

Advertise or promote (something).

Example: They will be able to exploit opportunities in the MARKET and increase profits.

A plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim.

Example: They developed a STRATEGY which they hoped would enable them to survive and prosper.

analyze

verb

Examine methodically and in detail the constitution or structure of (something, especially information), typically for purposes of explanation and interpretation.

Example: The technology group can use the forecasts to ANALYZE and determine the impact of the new technology.

Assistance or advice given to customers during and after the sale of goods.

Example: Vandevelde initiated some improvements to the customer SERVICE.

An article or substance that is manufactured or refined for sale.

Example: If trade barriers are established by either UK or International governments then it may affect the import of UK produce to other countries and therefore lower the demand for the PRODUCT, and this will also lead to a decline in the price of the PRODUCT.

verb

Produce an idea or way of solving a problem by holding a spontaneous group discussion.

Example: Prior to the meeting Jane had posted a request that we BRAINSTORM our ideas so that we could be sure our work was not overlapping or going off the point.

The management of large amounts of money, especially by governments or large companies.

Example: Talk to the corporate FINANCE staff about the state of the company's liquidity.

The sale of goods to the public in relatively small quantities for use or consumption rather than for resale.

Example: The rest of the money was lost into the RETAIL and food service industry (Ashbridge, I., 2006).

The main means of mass communication (broadcasting, publishing, and the internet) regarded collectively.

Example: The WSSD in Johannesburg created vast interest, both within politics, and also within the MEDIA.

The activity or profession of producing advertisements for commercial products or services.

Example: Marketing the product is important, implementation including selling methods, packaging, promotion and ADVERTISING (MAFF 1994).

A person, object, or place selected as the aim of an attack.

Example: Consumers are one of the TARGET groups of informational campaign launched be the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on 10 October 2005 under the motto: "Originality under protection".

The practice or science of collecting and analyzing numerical data in large quantities, especially for the purpose of inferring proportions in a whole from those in a representative sample.

Example: Based on STATISTICS submitted by the library to the Society of National, University and College Libraries (SCONUL) for the year ending July 2003.

effectiveness

noun

The degree to which something is successful in producing a desired result; success.

Example: More complex mechanical finger weeders and brush weeders have value for intra-row weeding, uprooting weeds rather than covering them with soil, however, soil type and condition may influence their EFFECTIVENESS (Bárberi, 2002).

Expert skill or knowledge in a particular field.

Example: Without their professional EXPERTISE and kind compliance, the foundation of species description, collection of morphological character data, will be severely weighed down.

The imparting or exchanging of information or news.

Example: COMMUNICATION will encourage teamwork as there will be more discussion and therefore perhaps more joint involvement in tasks.

adjective

Required, permitted, or enacted by statute.

Example: There is a STATUTORY microbiological test for UHT milk. However modifications were made to this during our testing procedure.

verb

Supervise (a person or work), especially in an official capacity.

Example: I have realised that an architect has to OVERSEE the activities of the consultants.
